We've seen it happen in movies or on TV, but what happens when you or one of your girls just so happens to be the pregnant bridesmaid? A million questions are likely running through your head: How big will my belly get? Will I have to wear something frumpy? How do I choose the right size dress as a pregnant bridesmaid? Luckily, there ARE great options; ones that will make you feel beautiful as you walk down that aisle absolutely glowing--or is that sweat? So if you're at a bridal salon and they show you their maternity bridesmaid dresses, don't feel pressured to buy the first mu-mu you see. Whether you're four months along or eight, we know exactly what styles of chiffon gowns will work best for you, so get that baby bump ready to shop!

Style tips for a pregnant bridesmaid.
When considering the best fabrics for your darling baby bump, you want to be looking at soft, light fabrics that will have some give. Satin and lace, as pretty as they may be, are probably not going to be the most flattering or flexible options for pregnant bridesmaids, so sticking with an A-line, chiffon gown will give you the comfort that you deserve! Not only is chiffon breathable, but it keeps your cool and won't show those dreaded sweat lines that every soon-to-be mama can relate with.
Feel fabulous in a Kennedy Blue chiffon gown.
Don't assume that you have to purchase a maternity bridesmaid dress just because you're pregnant! Just keep in mind that the style that you choose should have a high waistline to easily accommodate your growing belly. Ginger and Milly, flattering halter dresses, are going to be great options since the waistline forms a slight V, giving your baby bump plenty of room. If you need more top coverage (because the girls are also starting to grow) Elena and Amelia are going to be flattering picks. The bodice falls on the natural waistline, but can easily be pulled up over your bump and both offer wide straps for added support.

Shopping Tips for Pregnant Bridesmaids
Get measured by a professional.
Whether you're ordering bridesmaid dresses online or from a bridal shop, be sure that your measurements are taken accurately. We recommend having a professional seamstress take your measurements at your bust and hips and request that they use the size chart for the dress you are ordering to determine what size you should order. Generally, pregnant women should order two sizes up from what they normally wear - worst case you have your seamstress take it in! If you are unable to make an appointment to get measured by a professional, be sure to take your bust and hip measurements at home. Recruit a friend to help! The reason we do not recommend taking your waist measurement is due to your growing waistline.
Don't wait too long to order.
Generally, bridesmaid dresses are ordered 5-6 months prior to the wedding. Because a pregnant woman’s body can change rather drastically during this time frame, it’s a good idea to wait until as close to the wedding date as possible for your final dress alterations. However, don't wait TOO long to order, as tempting as it may be. Be sure to keep tabs on ship times. When in doubt, it's better to order big and request that your seamstress take a dress in than to order a dress that will be too small. The seam allowance to let a dress out is very small, while a dress can be taken in up to two sizes on average. Speaking of dress alterations, be sure to choose a seamstress or tailor with experience altering dresses for the pregnant body and set up appointments in advance.
Consider ordering extra length.
If possible, order your dress with extra length. This will ensure that your hemline isn’t brought up too high in front. If the bride wants bridesmaids to order a short style like Faith, consider opting for the long version of that dress and hemming it to knee length to ensure that you have adequate coverage and even length with your growing belly. Luckily, Kennedy Blue carries several bridesmaid dresses that include both long and short versions!
Be Realistic.
Seriously, it’s much easier to take dresses in, than to let them out. Be generous with the amount you expect to gain, and realistic about the amount you think you’ll lose.
Tips for Post-Partum Bridesmaids
Breastfeeding
If you will be breastfeeding, allow for several extra inches in the bust. If you’ll need to slip away during the wedding to pump or to feed your little one, keep that in mind and choose a convenient neckline, such as a halter you can untie or unfasten.
Be Realistic (Again).
If it will be a few months after your due date, don’t be tempted to order in your pre-pregnancy size. Instead, order a size or two above to be safe—trust us, even the most motivated of new moms may take more time than they expect to lose the baby weight.
Love Yourself!
Your body just endured a lot. As a new mom, be thankful for your experience and focus on having fun supporting the married couple rather than worrying about your postpartum body. Weddings are a joyful affair, so don't let the size of your dress or any surprise alterations ruin this special day. Focus on what an awesome, supportive bridesmaid, and new mom, you are!

Dressing your baby bump should be a fun experience, not something to stress over! Know that there are definitely great options regardless of how far along you are, so don't let being pregnant discourage you!
