7 Best Kennedy Blue Styles for Junior Bridesmaids

Best Kennedy Blue Styles for Junior Bridesmaids

“Does Kennedy Blue carry junior bridesmaid dresses?” This is one of our most frequently asked questions at Kennedy Blue! While we do not carry a line of dresses specific to junior bridesmaids, we do offer a wide variety of styles perfect for bridesmaids of all shapes and sizes!

Junior bridesmaids are important members of the wedding party and should look and feel just as amazing as everyone else involved! You may choose to have your junior bridesmaids to wear the same style dress as the other bridesmaids or you may opt for them to wear a similar, but more age appropriate style, depending on what the older bridesmaids choose to wear.

How do I know which size the junior bridesmaid(s) should order?

Junior bridesmaids are typically between the ages of 9 and 14 years old, but this guideline is not set in stone. Depending on how old your junior bridesmaid is, they may grow over the course of wedding preparation. While it may be tempting to wait until closer to the wedding to ensure that her dress fits as perfectly as possible, keep in mind that bridesmaid dresses typically take between 10 and 16 weeks (from the point of purchase) to ship. We recommend that junior bridesmaids get measured by a professional to determine which size she should order, using this measurement guide.

If the measurement guide indicates that she is in between sizes, we always recommend going with the larger of two sizes to give her a little wiggle room. It is possible to take in a bridesmaid dress up to 2 sizes, but the seam allowance to let a dress out is very small. When in doubt, it’s better to be safe than sorry! If your junior bridesmaid measures under a size 0, take a look at how many inches under the size chart they measure at. If her measurements are only slightly smaller than the ones on the size chart, she may be able to order a 0 and have it taken in. If there is a large gap between her measurements and the ones on the size 0 section of the size chart, you may need to look into other dress options.

It’s also important to note that Kennedy Blue bridesmaid dresses come long to accommodate bridesmaids of many different heights. The most common bridesmaid alteration is a hem. Don’t fret if your seamstress has to chop off quite a bit of fabric from your junior bridesmaid’s dress - a hem is a simple bridesmaid alteration no matter how much fabric needs to be taken off!

Finding the best style

A common concern about v-neck and spaghetti strap styles is that they may be too revealing for young bridesmaids. All Kennedy Blue styles are cut in a modest fashion to ensure that they are flattering, but still provide full coverage. Kennedy Blue styles are never low cut to ensure that bridesmaids of all shapes and sizes can rock them with comfort, but in the event that you still feel uneasy about your junior bridesmaid wearing a more mature style, there are tons of great modest styles to compliment other bridesmaid dresses!

Some brides choose to have the junior bridesmaids wear the same color and fabric as the older bridesmaids, while others choose a style that compliments others, but sets the younger ‘maids apart. Kennedy Blue dresses come in a variety of fabrics and colors, so if you want the junior bridesmaid dresses to match the color of the others’ be sure to check the color chart on both styles. Bridesmaid shopping tip: typically dresses in the same fabric family have the same color chart - for example all lace dresses have one size chart and all luxe chiffon dresses have another.

How to mix and match styles

If you’re looking for a good alternative to a certain bridesmaid style for your juniors, but want to be subtle try some of our super sneaky tips.

If the older ‘maids are wearing a strapless style, but you are concerned that the junior bridesmaids may fidget with their gown or won’t be able to fit in this style, you have a few options. You can save the extra fabric from the hem and request that your seamstress add straps to their dress. You can also find a complimentary style that includes straps such as a halter, high neck, or one shoulder neckline.

High neck or illusion necklines are a good fit for junior bridesmaids that will compliment v neck bridesmaid styles, but provide extra coverage. If you prefer that all bridesmaids wear the same style, you can request that your seamstress keep the extra fabric from the hem and create a modesty panel for the younger bridesmaids. A modesty panel is a strip of fabric added to the neckline of the dress to provide extra coverage - kind of like an undershirt or bandeau!
